Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good …

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough...I’m encouraging you to not let perfect be the enemy of good enough right now.

I have been telling myself for years that I needed to get a video on my website. In my head, I knew exactly what I wanted it to be. It was perfect.

And therefore it was never made.

Recently, in my mastermind group, we committed to creating a video. Turns out I was not alone in this “procrastination till perfection”.

With this commitment (which, by the way, is just one of many reasons why a mastermind is so awesome), I allowed myself to just be ok with finishing this project. I wrote out my script, set it on an online teleprompter, set my phone to record and started recording.

I moved the camera a couple times, sped up the teleprompter, changed some words, set up a desk lamp to give me better light and after about a dozen runs, I took one of the last ones, slapped an intro on it in Movie Maker, and published it.

Was it perfect?

Not even close. But it is done. I recognize that the desk lamp lit up my far too visible leg and will fix that next time, among other things. But again, it is done.

I was at a podcast conference called Podcast Movement last summer and heard Pat Flynn talk about and share his very first podcast. He has come a LONG way. And so will I. But I need to start before I can advance.
